Banana Flower Fry Recipe

It’s rare to consume Astringent taste daily. Astringent taste will produce more blood in our body. Except for Banana flower, no other food has an astringent taste in our daily food. Let’s see how we can prepare the simple and tasty banana flower fry.

Ingredients

Banana flower – 1
Green chilli – 3
Onion – 1
Curry leaves – 1
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Urad dal -1 tsp
Cumin seeds – 1tsp
Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
Chilli powder – 1-1/2 tsp
Coriander powder – 1
Garam masala -¼ tsp
Oil for seasoning
Salt for taste

Steps

Clean the banana flower by removing the stigma and fused petals. ( Stigma is the central part of each flower, and the fused petals are the part that looks like glass.) These two parts need to be removed since they will not be edible. See the snapshot for identifying the two parts.

Remove the Spathe layers if possible. If you are not able to remove it, then the rest of the part is the softest part, so we can chop it for the cook.

Add two spoons of vegetable oil to a pan and heat it. Once the oil is hot, add mustard seeds, urad dal, and cumin seeds and fry them.

Add green chili once the mustard seeds start spluttering and fry it.

Add chopped onion and curry leaves and fry them.

Add chopped banana flower and stir it. After two or three minutes, you will feel a little sticky part separated from the flower. Don’t worry about it, keep stirring it. After some time, the flowers will be separated individually. Add all masala powders and salt and stir them.

Add ¼ cup of water and keep cooking this for 5 minutes.

Now the banana flower fry is ready to serve.
